The BAPE STA is back, baby! As the legendary Japanese (though now Hong Kong–owned) streetwear company approaches its 30th anniversary, they’ve decided to replay some of their greatest hits – including this trio of designs that pay obvious ‘homage’ to an iconic 80s basketball shoe. Overt cultural reference aside, BAPE have made this design their own with their trademark BAPE Camo pattern splattered across key branding areas.

Okay, yeah, pundits have been arguing whether the BAPE STA is a rip-off or genuine tribute to the Nike ADD TO CAL for over 20 years. The jury is still out on the matter as the BAPE STA remains in production – which now has reverted to an earlier spec that is even more conspicuous in comparison to the AF-1. But the comparisons stop as soon as the BAPE Camo STA logos, coming again in green, bubblegum blue, or pastel pink are spotted, contrasting against the plain white leather uppers. In typical BAPE style, they don’t show any restraint and apply this camo pattern to the matching laces too, but hopefully there is a blank white secondary lace option.

These three BAPE STAs will release directly from BAPE on April 24, and it’s likely pairs will also make it to select boutique retailers.
