Off-White Secure Zip Tie Trademark

Off-White Secure Zip Tie Trademark

Subscribe to our Newsletter, Off-White will finally be awarded trademark registration for their signature red zip tie. An arduous back and forth between Virgil Abloh’s imprint and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the application was reportedly rejected numerous times before finally passing this week.

Off-White have been using their signature zip-ties on products since 2016, and first lodged for application on July 18 of the same year. Of course, the iconic red zip tie has become synonymous with the Off-White brand, especially after the eye-watering success of Virgil Abloh’s ‘The Ten’ series. Still, the Trademark Office held firm for six years, arguing that the zip ties are ‘functional, not distinctive’.

As reported by The Fashion Law in July 2021, Off-White argued that the use of the zip tie was no different than the use of other logos in indicating the product’s source of origin.

It’s no doubt welcome news for Off-White, who recently celebrated Virgil Abloh’s Legacy in FW22.
