Nike ACG Zoom Gaiadome Gore-Tex Brown inspired by collectable soft vinyl toys known as ‘Sofvi’, which is more commonly known as ‘Sofubi’ due to its pronunciation in Japan where the figures are popular. These objects are known for their intricate textures and vibrant colours, elements both found on these out-there AM1s.
The pair adopts a rich red and milky white colourway, with the latter’s matte finish in reference to the vinyl’s surface when set. Gradient details are located on the midfoot panel, replicating the skilful colouration of Sofubi toys that are often painted by hand. Textures range from patent leather mudguards to volt leather toe boxes and white ice soles. Halftone details show up on the tongue and insoles, seemingly nodding to printing techniques favoured in this niche interest. The shoe box is just as crazy, using the same halftone style for the graphic treatment on the outside. Nike have also placed a clear window on the box lid to replicate the packaging Sofubi figures are often displayed in.
