While Louis Vuitton introduced the Amber De Luca-Tao early last year, they’re still focusing on the iteration that started it all: Virgil Abloh’s OG LV Trainer. Louis Vuitton have just announced their ‘White Canvas: LV Trainer in Residence’ exhibition, dedicated to the first collection in a new series of artistic reinterpretations of the LV Trainer. Set to be a recurring program, this inaugural instalment features three key artists shaped by the 1980s New York underground scene. Consequently, three limited-edition versions of the silhouette, created in collaboration with artists Lady Pink, Lee Quiñones, and the Estate of Rammellzee, respectively, have just launched.

All three artists are well-established in the contemporary art world. Lady Pink, born in Ecuador in 1964, is known as a leading participant in the rise of graffiti-based art and is still a cult figure in the hip-hop community today. Lee Quiñones was born in Puerto Rico in 1960 and shot to fame painting entire subway cars and murals, and was pivotal in moving street art above ground. The late visual artist Rammellzee expressed himself in various artworks across disciplines, including painting, sculpture, music and performance art. Rammellzee was also a collaborator and friend of Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose art featured on the cover of Rammellzee and K-Rob’s 12-inch single ‘Beat Bop’ – considered by some as the most collectible hip-hop record ever.

This trio of LV Trainers is being showcased at Louis Vuitton’s Garage Traversi store in Milan until March 16. Limited quantities of the pairs will be available on location.
