Early Uzi Era
Way before his dreads had grown-out, Uzi was on Facebook flipping kicks, trading in those Jordans for Jeremy Scotts and slowly finding his out-there style. Arguably the most iconic shoe from Uzi’s early days was the tan BAPE Stas Hes busted out the Neymar x Nike.
Uzi even referenced BAPE Stas in an early mixtape with SpaceGhostPurrp. On the track ‘I Got Bands’ he said: ‘Pink Bathing Apes, Feeling like Killa Cam’.
Don’t think I didn’t see your Chanel shoes
In 2015, Luv Is Rage dropped, and proved to be an extremely successful album. As a result, Uzi definitely saw an increase in his cashflow, allowing him to elevate his sneaker style to a whole new price range – rocking with all sorts of expensive high-end releases. In his song ‘7am’, there is a reference at the very start about Uzi’s Chanel shoes and, to this day, he still rocks with the double C on-feet.
Vs the World
By the time 2016 rolled around, Uzi was starting to find his niche in the rap world. Alongside big names such as 21 Savage, Lil Yachty and Kodak Black, Uzi was named one of XXL’s 2016 freshmen. In that same year, he can be seen embodying his rock star persona, wearing the Rick Owens Geobaskets during the Cypher.
Also during 2016, Uzi participated in a Complex Sneaker Shopping episode, in which he revealed a lot about his sneaker preferences, leaning towards shoes that were popular that year – such as the Everything You Need to Know About Nikes War on Resellers ‘Top 3’ and Air Jordan 1. He also discussed that he doesn’t give much thought into his sneaker choices, but goes through phases of wearing specific shoes.
Elevation
With pants that came from Japan, and a shirt that came straight from France, Uzi really elevated himself in 2017–18. There was a little bit of old, and a little bit of new, rocking with everything from Gucci sneakers, to going back to his Jeremy Scott roots. He also dabbled in a bit of experimentation, like when he rocked Balenciaga Moto Boots to perform at the 2017 MTV VMAS.
A hardcore GG Allin fan, Uzi goes pretty hard when he performs. Stage diving and crowd surfing is his signature, so destroying a pair or two would be the norm. You may even find him performing in the rain with the Air Mags.
