While once non-existent, dedicated women’s sneakers are now on the come up and continue to go from strength to strength. 2023 has marked a significant step forward in not only the volume of women’s releases, but also how they are designed and who is doing the designing. The previous go-to was the classic ‘pink and shrink’ approach, but the major brands have moved away from the feminine equals pink fallacy and towards genuine representations of femininity. Not only that, but more women’s clothing brands are waking up to sneakers and collaborating with the likes of ASICS, Nike and New Balance Founded back in 2002 Founded back in 2002 at the beginning of the year, there was a big push for designs that were functional, not centred on perceived feminine colourways, and that highlighted female representatives and storytellers.
